How to get more leads as a contractor

Contractors usually hear that they need more marketing. Most need a better order of work. Some steps cost little and pay back fast. Others only make sense once the basics work. Here is the order we would use.

1. Fix the Google Business Profile first

When someone searches for a contractor near them, the map results come first. Your profile decides whether you appear there. Pick the right primary category, list your real services, set the towns you actually cover, add photos of finished jobs, and ask every customer for a review. Our checklist covers each step.

2. Give each service its own page

A single services page rarely matches what people type. Someone searching for a water heater replacement wants a page about water heater replacement. Build one page per service you want to be known for, and add pages for the towns you serve where you can say something useful about each.

3. Make the website easy on a phone

  • A tap-to-call button that stays visible.
  • A short estimate form with only the fields you need.
  • Pages that load quickly on a mobile connection.

4. Answer every lead fast

A homeowner with a leak or a dead furnace keeps calling down the list until someone picks up. A missed-call text-back and a quick reply to web forms keep those leads from going to the next company. This costs little and often matters more than another ad.

5. Add ads once tracking works

Search ads put you in front of people who need someone this week. They only make sense when you can see which call came from which ad. Set up call tracking and form tracking before you spend, so you can cut what does not book work.

6. Ask for reviews after every job

Reviews help you show up and help people choose you once they do. Ask every customer in the same way, soon after the job, and reply to each review. Do not pay for reviews or screen who you ask. Google’s policies forbid both.

What to expect

Profile and follow-up fixes can help within weeks. SEO usually takes 60 to 90 days to move lower-competition searches, and longer for competitive ones. Ads work faster and stop when you stop paying. We do not promise a ranking, and you should be careful of anyone who does.
